5 Shortcuts to a Smarter Home Today

Updated: May 19, 2019

Today, I want to share 5 shortcuts to a smarter home. Our lives are better today because of convenience. Smart technology just makes things easier. These luxe comforts can be easily achieved and can be integrated into your home today! I've considered items that have easy setup instructions, and that are highly rated. That leads us to our first shortcut:

1. Amazon Echo or Apple HomePod

Smart assistants are the best! I've had more than a few chats with Siri, and Google Assistant helps me with finding new destinations. These assistants are also helpful in the home with the use of Amazon Echo or Apple HomePod. "Tell me the weather"...because you can. "How do you make cheesecake?"...because this is what I live for. I see many reasons to pursue these cute little smart home assistants. Many reasons, indeed.

2. The Philips Hue

If you've ever had to work late, and bring things inside, you know the pain of walking into a dark house with hands full. Not only are you tasked with disarming the security system, but the only thing that you can see is the keypad. Problem solved with Philips Hue. The Philips Hue system is easy to implement into your home's smart scheme. This system has dimming features, and a built in setting called "nightlight". If you're into colored lighting, there are bulbs for that. After all, it is The Hue! There are options to customize different schemes to light certain rooms or areas at specific times, and to light the rooms outside of a schedule. If you forget to set a scheme, you can click on a light before you exit your car! This is how I turn my bedroom light on in the morning. No clapping involved...only clicking.

3. The Ring Doorbell has revolutionized the way that people "answer" the door. Whether you're at home or away, it saves you the trip if it's a drop off delivery, or someone you didn't anticipate. Wired surveillance doesn't always get this angle, so The Ring is indeed an enhancement.

4. Sonos Wireless Speaker

What's a life without music? Okay, music AND podcasts. My first Sonos wireless speaker was a gift from a manager on one of my I.T. projects. It is the easiest thing to use! While home sound systems are king/queen, the portability of this speaker allows you to take the technology anywhere there's wifi, and you have permission. This is a home hack for sure!!! It works well in large spaces, with clear audio, and superior sound.

5. The Pet Cube

Finally, home is also home to our furry friends. The Pet Cube is an amazing way to see your fur-children, if you're going to be away at work. When I travel, and have to board my Zsa Zsa, I'm a hover parent. Her suite has cameras for remote viewing, and the kind folks at Pet Cube felt we should have this same technology at home. For kicks, see Zsa Zsa below in her beach themed boarding suite! Be sure to check out a few smart home products today.
